Lip Lift

A lip lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the upper lip by shortening the distance between the nose and the upper lip. As we age, the upper lip can gradually lengthen and lose definition, causing the lips to appear thinner and less youthful. A lip lift restores a more balanced, youthful appearance by increasing the amount of visible pink lip and improving overall lip shape and proportion.

Unlike injectable fillers, which add temporary volume, a lip lift provides a permanent enhancement by repositioning the upper lip. The procedure can create a more defined lip border, improve upper tooth show when smiling, and enhance facial harmony while maintaining a natural appearance. Many patients choose a lip lift because they desire a long-lasting solution that does not require ongoing maintenance treatments.

During your consultation, Dr. Talbott will evaluate your facial anatomy, discuss your goals, and determine whether a lip lift is the most appropriate option for achieving the youthful, natural-looking results you desire.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Lip Lift?

A lip lift may be an excellent option for individuals who are bothered by a thin upper lip, a long space between the nose and upper lip, or age-related changes that have reduced lip definition and visibility. The procedure is designed to create a more youthful, balanced appearance while preserving the natural character of the face.

You may be a good candidate for a lip lift if you:

  • Feel your upper lip appears thin or lacks definition
  • Have a longer-than-desired distance between the nose and upper lip
  • Would like more upper tooth show when smiling
  • Desire a permanent alternative to repeated lip filler treatments
  • Want to enhance lip shape while maintaining a natural appearance
  • Are in good overall health and have realistic expectations

During your consultation, Dr. Talbott will assess your facial proportions and discuss your aesthetic goals to determine whether a lip lift, lip fillers, or a combination of treatments will best achieve your desired outcome.

Lip Lift Procedure

A lip lift is performed to enhance the appearance of the upper lip by shortening the distance between the base of the nose and the upper lip. The procedure involves removing a small strip of skin just beneath the nose, allowing the upper lip to be gently elevated into a more youthful position. This increases the amount of visible pink lip, improves lip definition, and can enhance upper tooth show when smiling.

Dr. Talbott carefully designs the incision to follow the natural contours beneath the nose, where the resulting scar can be well concealed. After the excess skin is removed, the tissues are repositioned and the incision is meticulously closed to promote optimal healing and a natural-looking result.

A lip lift is typically performed under local anesthesia, although sedation may be used in some cases. The procedure generally takes less than one hour to complete and is usually performed on an outpatient basis. Patients are able to return home shortly after the procedure.

Lip Lift Recovery

Following a lip lift, patients can expect some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort around the upper lip and nose. These symptoms are temporary and generally improve significantly during the first one to two weeks. Most discomfort can be managed with prescribed or over-the-counter medication as recommended by Dr. Talbott.

Patients are typically able to resume many normal daily activities within a few days, although strenuous exercise and activities that place tension on the upper lip should be avoided until healing is well underway. Sutures are generally removed within several days, depending on the healing process.

As swelling subsides, patients begin to appreciate improved lip shape, enhanced definition, and a more youthful facial appearance. While the incision beneath the nose will initially be visible, it typically fades significantly over time and becomes well hidden within the natural contours of the nose. Final results continue to improve as healing progresses, providing a long-lasting enhancement that does not require ongoing maintenance treatments.
